ScanNCut Blades

It just occurred to me a few days ago that my ScanNCut machine is very nearly 2 yrs old, I think I got it around about the 3/4th March 2013, why I am telling you all this, well the reason I am is because I am still using my original blade, yes my blade is nearly 2 yrs old.

If you follow my blog and Youtube channel you will know how much Ive used my ScanNCut machine and every project has been cut using the same blade.

So yes Ive cut – paper, card, chipboard, acrylic type plastic, vinyl, fabric, hessian, rubber stamp material, mirror board and more recently glitter paper.

I changed my mat towards the end of last year and that was really only because i had cut through my original one several times from when my machine was new, its all taped up on the back and its be re stuck several times it still works fine but I thought I would start on a new mat, but I still use the original one from time to time.

When I bought my machine I also purchased the following accessories the pen tool and pens, the 12×24 mat, a scan mat, a spare 12×12 standard mat and a couple of standard blades and a deep cut blade (thank you Annemarie for reminding me I have one of those)

The standard blades remain unopened and Ive used the deep cut blade once.

So for a machine that is nearly 2yrs old I think I’ve done very well on consumables!

  1. I bought mine Jan 2013 and I’m still using the same blade too – brilliant product! 🙂

  2. Likewise. My machine is just over 2 years having bought it just before it was aired on C & C and I’m still using the original blade, but I probably use mine nowhere near as much as you do. I do wonder if the original blades were the best after reading comments from people who have recently bought new blades about the inconsistency in the length of blades, etc. I always do a test cut, as you probably do to save wasting valuable materials starting with a low blade (yes I also cut my mat when I first got my machine as I had been used to the Circut on which I had to have blade depth and pressure on full most of the time). I love my SnC.

  3. My machine is only a month old, but I already replaced my blade because it was snagging on the cuts. I also have two mats on the go because the first one is cut up a fair bit since I did not get the hang of the blade depth too quickly. that might be why the blade got so dull so quickly. Anyway, with a new blade and a new mat is cuts beautifully!

  4. I’m with you Ashley. I got a deep cut blade and a spare standard blade but haven’t used them. I have a couple of spare mats that I threaten to start using as mine looks so sad… Perhaps it the crafter in us that can’t bear to throw things out while they’re still useful. It’s definitely value for money. I’m so tempted to upgrade… Waiting to see what deal Friday brings..
Thanks for all of your hints and tips.

  5. That is really nice to know, I have only had my machine for a couple of weeks and really appreciate your videos on using it, especially for fabrics.

    1. Hi, thank you i would say that it may be best to keep a separate blade for paper and fabric, but to be honest I’ve just wanted to test my blade out to the max, so I’ve used this same original blade for everything I’ve cut.

  6. I can not tell you how much you have helped me I would be LOST if not for you and I thank you!!

  7. I got my machine before you got your Ashley. After 2 yrs, I had to replace the blade I use for fabric. The blade for vinyl is still going strong. My mat…I still have but it had seen it’s days. I use that one for vinyl only. I use painter’s tape to hold the vinyl down. I don’t bother getting the mat sticky anymore. Since cutting on vinyl is a light cut, I just tape the sides and that works fine for me.
I do have another mat for fabric.
