How to split a font in ScanNCut Canvas

I have done this type of thing before using Inkscape but I thought I would showy how it can be done online using Brother ScanNCut Canvas.

I used the same regal font as I have shown previously, which meant I had to start it off in Inkscape, but this technique will work with any of the fonts in Canvas.

The font I used is called Regal its quite a popular font for this type of thing and should be available through an internet search.

  1. Hi Ashley,
Just trying this, following your video with a P but when it comes to removing overlapped with the oblong it just keeps saying cant do it with open or intersecting path.

    1. Hi
Out of curiosity did you follow the video using the M I used to see if you can make it work with that. It may be something to do with the letter you chose.

I haven’t tried every letter of the alphabet but I have tried several and it’s worked every time.

If that letter won’t work in Canvas I did an Inkscape tutorial doing the same thing.

Another thing to try if you would is follow this tutorial but use a Canvas font (no inkscape at all) I tried several Canvas fonts and it worked with them. It may help work out what’s going wrong.

      1. Hi Ashley
no didnt try with the M but will do just to see. If not will try with inkscape only.
        Thanks for the reply

      2. Hi
I only asked because Margaret used the M and it worked, I am wondering if certain letters are more troublesome than others, you never know how a font has been made.
Would also be interested to know if you can make it work using the canvas fonts, as i tried a few of them and it worked for me.
        Thanks

  2. Hi Ashley
have tried the M, that works fine. P and D not. Will try others shortly

    1. I suspect then it to do with all the various parts that make up this font, Canvas works fine its a shame we cannot use our own fonts in it. I will have a play when I get time and see if it works in Silhouette studio or if theres another way to deal with problem letters, it may just be its best to do it all in inkscape as I’ve show before.

    1. Hi
I suspect then it is to do with how certain letters are made up in that font, when i get some time i will see if i can come up with a solution for the P & D.

  3. Just catching up with what you have been up to and thought you may like to take a look at my bog posts at pforward17.wordpress.com to see what I’ve been up to, I have a few instructional posts on baby mini albums and the latest is an altered canvas I completed this weekend it came out much better than I thought it would and I love it. A number of people on facebook like it too.

    1. Just been and had a quick look I will catch up with it later, well done on starting to blog, its good fun sharing stuff with other people isn’t it.

      1. It certainly is I Just need people to visit my blog site and leave comments so that I know what they think of my work.

  4. Love the video I can see myself using that for all sorts of things. Including my altered canvas designs.
This is similar to your splitting monograms video.

  5. love the video, unfortunately I couldn’t get mine to work for some reason it kept coming up some lines cross others. After a few attempts I got frustrated so i’ll have another go again another day.

In the meantime I have created a treat box card similar to yours in canvas but I’m recycling some packaging from some versa marker ink pads. It’s looking good so far. as the box measures 4′ x 2 7/8″ some of my elements will have to be deleted and cut separate, but it still works. The base card measures 11.45″ x 5.12″. I’ll be making it later this week and placing the instructions on my blog. (pforward17.wordpress.com)

If you have any info on how to create a heading and the links down the side of the wordpress blogs, please let me know as I haven’t had time to set them up as yet. I’m getting some followers bit by bit.

I’ve made a lace heart easile card cutting file I want to share with people as well.
I’ve been on quite a roll of crafting lately. Experimenting with some new paints and textures as well.

    1. Hi
The headings down the side of the wordpress blog and called widgets, in your control panel you should have an option to add them, it may be under appearance or something like that.

Also you may find videos on YouTube on how to customise a wordpress blog.

    1. I’ve had mine for a very long time, I think I said that in the video, if I’ve not out a link in the box under the video I can only suggest you do a Google search and you will probably find it.
